The government is cognisant of the measures required to control the escalating prices of goods and is committed to alleviating the inflationary burden on the populace, said Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, the interim government's adviser for the ministries of finance and trade.
Addressing reporters on Sunday (18 August) following a meeting with Edimon Ginting, the country director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) office in the capital, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed emphasised that commodity prices are intrinsically linked to production and supply.
He underscored the importance of augmenting imports when domestic production falls short of demand.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed noted that trade constitutes a cornerstone of the economy and plays a pivotal role in inflationary trends.
He affirmed the government's resolve to foster a business-friendly environment by curbing corruption and addressing trade-related challenges. To this end, he announced forthcoming consultations with relevant ministries and trade organisations.
Regarding his discussion with the ADB's country director, the adviser remarked that the continuation of logical and ongoing projects was deliberated.
He further stated that the ADB remains committed to supporting both current and future projects.
"They are positive about our plans. We are well aware of the necessary steps to be taken," he added.
